Battle on the High Seas

You may be wondering if there is a game out there that can combine a love for naval combat, geometric and spatial awareness, and a keen sense of the process of elimination.  Well, your prayers will be answered with the classic board game, Battleship.  The basic premise of the game: sink your opponent’s entire fleet before they sink yours.  The game board is laid out in a grid on which five different ships are arranged horizontally or vertically.  Each player cannot see the arrangement of their opponent’s ships.  They take turns choosing coordinates that they believe one of their opponent’s ships resides.  After each guess, the player who is being attacked says whether the choice was a hit or a miss.  This process goes on and on until one player sinks all of their opponent’s ships.

Despite the monotonous tone that this game implies, be assured that this is one of the most exciting games ever created.  It will keep you on the edge of your seat for at least 10 minutes (because that is about how long it takes to go through the process of elimination).  There are not many chances one gets in this life to declare our supremacy over the high seas, yet this game provides just such an opportunity.
